Disclaimer: this record is a non mandatory recommendation to help in health care decision making process. After reading it, patients are encouraged to review the information carefully with their physicians. Never disregard professional medical advice.

  • The diagnosis of acute rhinosinusitis (ARS) is based on adequate medical history and physical examination.
  • Sinuses x-ray does not improve the diagnostic appropriateness of adult ARS, it does not to differentiate between viral and bacterial aetiology and it does not modify therapeutic behaviour.
  • Requesting a sinuses x-ray in the uncomplicated ARS is not indicated in adults, because it does not give any value in the treatment of that pathology, and instead it may be unnecessary risk to the patient, and expenditure.

In adult patients with uncomplicated acute rhinosinusitis, sinuses radiography does not add value to the patient's management.
